Multi-National Transit Authority

Forums:

I hereby move for the creation of a multi-national transit authority to oversee matters of rapid transit between the separate nations of the world.

For the initial forming of this organization, I request signoff from key members of the two major nations of the world, Creeper Canyon and New Asmodae. It is my belief that these two nations will provide enough pull to establish such an organization and allow it a proper starting point to spread.

Additional installations and nations will be free to join later, without the need for approval, provided they agree to abide by any guidelines set by the authority at that point. If some of the guidelines are not acceptable, exceptions can be made but must meet the approval of the active existing members.

Charter

Unimpeded transit should be a natural right of those on the server. The transit authority will exist to further this cause. The authority will not make any rules outside the bounds of insuring safe travel between participating regions, and will not enforce rules on anyone not within range of an existing transit hub.

New rules regulations, and changes to existing ones, must be approved by a majority of member nations. The same group representing multiple hubs will be considered one nation for this purpose.

Initial regulations

A region is considered a self-sovereign member of the authority if it meets the following criteria:

  • Has a single portal to the Nether.
  • Said portal is located 1024m (blocks) from the nearest portal.
  • Said portal (world side) is safe and able to act as a hub for the surrounding area.
  • Said portal (nether side) is safe and connected by powered rail to at least one other hub in the transit authority.
  • Each hub (world side portal) is available to use by all.
  • Each hub (world side portal) is quickly accessible to the surrounding areas, preferably by rail, but this is left to the discretion of each nation. Additional methods of access (more rail lines, etc.) must be provided (or allowed) at the request of others in the area. This will allow each hub to service the area between hubs.

Rights of nations in the authority

Nations in the authority have the right to disable or destroy any portals within their region (1024m radius from the hub). In exchange for this power, nations should take reasonable action to provide access to their hub to all needing access. This does not require nations to lay rail for others, but to accommodate such rail as needed by others.

Joining the authority

As covered in the above, joining the authority is automatic if the above criteria are met. Nations wishing to join the authority do not yet have the right, as seen by the authority, to shut down interfering portals, and should make appropriate negotiations with those already in the to shut down any existing portals and / or find a mutually beneficial location for the hub. We do not want this to become a land grab, hubs should be shared resource.

Requested action

In order to form this authority, I would like the approval from the following individuals (representing the nations of New Asmodae and Creeper Canyon as well as transit work done close to the spawn point and between existing hubs:

  • Nova (representing Creeper Canyon)
  • Zerm (representing Creeper Canyon)
  • Kaizoku222 (representing New Asmodae)
  • Meradudd (representing transit work done in the span area and between exiting portals)

Please feel free to discuss and suggest changes, and offer your approval of such an authority.
Thanks,
Nova

Here it is; if some of it is confusing let me know.

I didn't add a pedway from the alternate station location, but I would build one from inside my structure to the station.

Very nice approach for a planning map!

The real question for the spawn area (which needs NA, meradudd, yourself, and TW to decide on) is whether the existing location for the hub is the best, or if it should be relocated to NA. If it were moved, it would make the connection to the zoomed area more efficient to connect near TW, which would probably be easier if you wanted to lay track on the surface.

Glad the map is helping :)

An approach from the South might not be a bad idea, actually. I'll dink around and see what I can come up with.

Cool. I am personally a fan or rail line on the surface; I like the view and the feeling that you are moving. Rail running underground is about the most boring thing to watch possible :(

Do you know the distances for rail power? Zerm looked them up while he was out visiting: 3 boosters get the cart to max speed, and another booster ever 38 blocks keeps it there.

The 38 block rule may apply in SP, but I have found that a powered rail every 35 or so is better in SMP. Elevated or subterranean rail is a matter of aesthetics, but rail on the surface seems to invite a LOT of mob-related problems. Elevated has similar issues, but not as badly.

The PTP (point-to-point) system I have used so far has been for multiple reasons, most importantly that it is both very resource and space efficient...the latter being quite important in the Nether when you're hanging over a lava lake with ghasts mewling at you. That said, there are other designs out there which could be incorporated with the present schema.

So.... did the old hub just collapse into nothingness? And we destroyed the old portal there, but it's back now. The one in NA is hooked up correctly and the one at the old hub doesn't need to exist anymore. Also, for the rail, I was going to route it to the small island near the coast in between TW and ShartBus's place, then down near miney allowing for pretty much the same local hookups as detailed in the picture.

Meradudd and I attacked the old hub. The portal there was generated when using the portal from the nether side; the nether portal needs to be moved (16, 75, -17) and is currently at (-2.5, 79, -18.5). Once that is done, it will stop creating extra portals. We fought the same thing in Creeper Canyon with extra portals getting created.

here's a quick (see: very quick) sketch of what routes might be practical if placed a little further South. Respect my awesome MSPaint skill!

The red line is currently the most likely line, with a mini-station on the island below you that we've been referring to (and will be making into) as turtle island. We'll be making the spawn line connect to the NA hub, continuing on east on the red line.

Some more ideas for how to route the rails in and around GT; I'll supply the materials needed for the majority of the project, including the powered rails and (if I have it at the time) the majority of the cobblestone and rails.

Also, if someone could post a photo or a schematic of what the rail tunnels should look like (so I can have the dimensions), I can begin construction and the railway can just connect from the West as it is completed.
